Communications Systems Design
Bob Gough has been involved in the design and development of a wide range of communications systems for different applications. Satellite-based applications include :
- Real-time, two-way high data rate communications via LEO, MEO and GEO satellites.
- Free space coherent optical communications for LEO and Lunar applications.
- Trunk telephony & data
- Thin route telephony & data
- Television distribution
- Television broadcast to home
- Television uplink feeds
- Data broadcasting
- VSAT and VoIP systems
- Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
- Meteorological data dissemination
- Maritime communications
- Aeronautical communications
- Defence communications
Each of these applications places different demands on the system design engineer, and different access and modulation & coding schemes are usually required in each case. Extensive use has been made of mathematical modelling and computer simulation, and these are Bob’s favourite areas.
A large amount of detail on the many design, development and projects undertaken by Bob and his team can be found in the different submenus of the Experience page of this site. Specific projects under the headings FDMA, TDMA and CDMA are detailed below =>
